Simplifying my Routine

Well I made it through my first couple of weeks back at work.

One thing I decided before I went back to school was that my morning routine had to be simplified and purposeful. I knew I wasn’t going to survive if I kept up my previous routine (40 minutes to shower and dry my hair in the morning). So now I have a short morning routine that leaves room for me to sit and enjoy the quite and prepare my heart. Here is what I do:

5:30 Get up and get dressed
5:45 Make coffee, eat breakfast and spend time in God’s word
6:20 Get Millie up and feed her
6:50 Leave the house and drive to school
7:00 Arrive at school

I feel so much more ready for the day now that I am carving out time in the morning to start my Day with God’s word. There are days Millie gets up too early, on those days I feed her a little early and spend some time with her while I eat breakfast, then I try to fit my time with God in later in the day. Being a mom means living flexibly.

Really admire that even though you get up at an absurd hour you still make time for devotions. For me, its usually getting a 5 minute daily bread in on my iphone before I run out the door to school. :(

Thanks Liz, that use to be my morning routine (or nothing at all) but I really feel so much better when I take the time and fit it in then when I don’t.

Wait, so when do you shower now? At night? I am always looking for ways to streamline the mornings, but looks like 1.5 hr is about right, huh? I need to find time for God’s word though. Most def.

Yes I shower at night, I wash my hair every other night and usually shower every night. It is a bit of a pain some nights, but worth it in the long run. The only problem is sometimes I get too hot and sweat and my hair looks crazy in the morning!

  3. Way to fit in your priorities!!! :)

I try and have a little devotions with my kids each morning. Sometimes it’s rushed, other times we are able to have a more meaningful time, but I like the idea of them learning “first things first.” I got a cleaning service to hlep me out so that I would make sure I have the time.

Such a good idea to do devos with your kiddos in the morning. We did that with my mom while she drove us to school growing up (and sometimes over breakfast if we had time).
