I wanted to share a few book recommendations with you today. I am a reader and a lover of books. But when you are a mom there is little time for reading. At least in the early years, at least in my house. In this past year as a mom (and as I type this it literally has been 1 year that I have been a mom) I have read a number of really good books that have touched my heart. I thought it would be fitting to share them (or re-share them as the case may be) during this series.
One Thousand Gifts: I read this book in January, right before I headed back to work. This book really changed my heart in big ways. From Ann I learned thankfulness again. And I learned that thankfulness is not always about the good times, it has to be about the hard times too. This book changed my attitude about going back to work, even though it has nothing to do with being a working mom. It is simply about giving thanks, which seems simple enough, but it is certainly worth the read.
Sparkly Green Earrings: This book is about motherhood, and though the author is a stay-at-home mom, I didn’t leave the book feeling discouraged about my different circumstances. Melanie rejoices in motherhood through her funny and heart warming stories. I really couldn’t put this book down and now I am already feeling like I need to read it again.
7: an experimental mutiny against excess: This book will challenge you to simplify in all areas of your life. Don’t read it if you aren’t ready to be challenged about your views on ‘stuff’ because it will change your heart and call you to action. Though this book has nothing to do with being a working mom, it challenged me to simplify areas of my life so that I could enjoy the shorter amounts of time I have with M when I get home from work.
